Angry Think twice before buying major appliance from HomeDepot online store

Ok, just want to share some of my (bad) experience on this dryer purchase from HomeDepot online store.

I got this dryer (Maytag Centennial 7.0 Cu. Ft. Electric Dryer) and it has problem even it was brand new. Basically the dryer won't stop no matter what temperature or settings I choose it wouldn't stop. The clothes will come out scotching hot. I called up Maytag and the service man came out pretty quickly, however the part was on back order and they can't fix it. It has been 3 weeks now and I still don't know when the part will be available.
So I called HomeDepot and I was told:
"Any major appliances ordered from the online store will be manufacturer's responsibility since HomeDepot.com is just an online store. Once you signed the delivery paper, and if you found any damage or defect, it has to be reported within 48 hours."
I know this is HomeDepot's policy and they can set it whichever way they want to, even though this doesn't sound right to me I'll live with that. But as a consumer I am entitled to get a "working" merchandise and the store should be responsible on that no matter what brand it is and where I purchased it from (online or through a physical store).
  • When it comes buying major appliances online, make sure read their return policy. I know I won't buy anything from HomeDepot.com again. If you do, make sure thoroughly check it within 48 hours after delivery, test as many features as possible, yes, be a quality assurance person.
  • Last time I checked MayTag was a great brand. Their service representatives were very nice, but a brand new dryer broken on this basic feature just doesn't cut it for me. I mean if you have lousy product it really doesn't matter how nice your service man is on TV commercials.

Default Don't buy appliances from homedepot.com

Totally agree.
Bought a fridge and it was noisy like a train. Called homedepot customer service and it was the worst no help ever. Here is how the conversation went:

HD customer service: what's the problem of the refrigerator?
Me: It's too loud and I wonder...

HD customer service: Did you use it?
Me: No I didn't put anything in it.

HD customer service: How did you find out it is loud?
Me: I plugged it in...

HD customer service: Then you have used it. No return for appliances bought online.
Me: Is there someone else that I can talk to?
HD customer service: I can give you the corporate number. It's 770...

So that was basically it. The customer service also mentioned the no return policy is in the Term of Use and trust me I searched homedepot.com there is no mentioning at all. It might be mentioned somewhere during the check out process and I overlooked. I guess I'll never find it our since I'll never buy any appliance from homedepot ever again, even it means I go live with the "Flintstoners".

Just wondering, bulldognation, what model did you purchase? I'm in the market for a new fridge. Thanks.

It's a Hotpoint 18 cu.ft. top freezer refrigerator. Made by GE. I called GE and they sent someone over quickly. The technician didn't think there is anything wrong with it. I don't remeber how he explained it but basically it's normal. I like GE's customer service. But if I knew the noise level I wouldn't have purchased it. Be careful purchasing major appliance online, especially places like homedepot.com which has a "no-return" whatsoever policy, is the lesson learned for me.

I think if you buy from Homedepot.com, you are buying through Home Depot from their affiliated sellers, and they have their own set of rules and policies, so the thing that you bought may not be returnable. I have the same kind of issue with Home depot for the thing that I bought online.
